WHAT IS YOUR ROLE/POSITION IN MOTORCYCLING?
Landspeed motorcycle racer, American Motorcyclist Association Female Rider of the Year, Rawhyde off-road motorcycle coach, and evangelist for women in the sport of motorcycling.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO MOTORCYCLING?
It came when I arrived at the intersection of genetic predisposition, passion and opportunity. My father always loved fast cars, and taking my brother and I to the country to ... um ... "enjoy" them! So i was genetically predisposed through my dad, and my mother encouraged me to always follow my desires. In 1999 I moved to San Francisco and was introduced to riding the amazing western half of the United States. When i learned there was a sport where you could go as fast as you were able, in a controlled environment, and as a competitive event, i was hooked!
WHAT DO YOU LIKE/ENJOY IN MOTORCYCLING?
Speed. Lots of it.
WHAT IS YOUR OBJECTIVE, YOUR GOAL?
My near-term goals are (1) Lifetime membership in the SCTA Bonneville 200 mile-per-hour club, (2) Bring the Production 1000cc record home for BMW (Honda currently has it), (3) Expand my evangelism efforts in the sport.
WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND MOTORCYCLING?
The same reason I would for men. The sport isn't for everyone, in fact I believe it's polarizing - one is either drawn to it or not. There's not a middle ground. But if you are drawn to it, don't let people put up obstacles that keep you from following your passion. Yes, it's an extreme sport. But it's also an amazing one ... and if you're called to it, follow that instinct and be a student of the discipline. Learn everything you can, from everyone around you, and never stop becoming an even better rider.
